Now at the end of Planet Ark's National Recycling Week, one half of Collins Hume's Green Team, Naomi Monk, is asking what more can be done.
"We initiated National Recycling Week by collecting milk bottle and plastic bottle tops for Lids for Kids, as well as bread tags and soft plastics," says Naomi.
"Our team is collecting items at home and at work. I've already taken heaps of soft plastics to be recycled at the supermarket and will do our first drop off of milk bottle tops at the council next week."
National Recycling Week resonates with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals 11 and 12, which Collins Hume uses as guidelines to being a purposeful business.
Visitors to Collins Hume's Ballina office will have seen the SDGs and recycling information front and centre in the reception area as part of this week's awareness campaign.
"It's great to be able to do our part," says Naomi. "It's got to start somewhere with each individual and goes along the lines of our Sustainable Development Goals."
"Not only have we been filling resource recovery satchels with obsolete mobile phones, dead batteries, wine bottle corks and smoke detectors, but a lot of this week has been about mythbusting."
The highlight of Collins Hume's National Recycling Week culminated in an Upcycle/Recycle Outfit Parade where the winner of the recycling quiz was announced.
"With lots of green prizes including cloth shopping bags, keep cups and veggie bags, entrants came dressed in their most imaginative interpretations of what recycled meant to them, whether their costumes were second hand, reinvented or hand-me-downs."
Going forward Naomi and David will be the drivers of recycling change at Collins Hume.
"David has been looking at offsetting carbon emissions when we drive or fly through various B1G1 programs."
"It has been an easy change now that we're fully across good recycling habits and we're looking forward to correctly sorting our office refuse and composting where possible as a next step," Naomi added.
"Big thanks to Naomi and the green team for all their efforts this week," Managing Partner Jamie Doyle added. "As she mentioned, it's not recycling/green week at CH – it's recycling/green year!"
