Collins Hume welcomes new Senior Accountant

Chris Horne CA, B Bus (Accounting)

Leaving the cooler climes of public practice in Melbourne, Chartered Accountant Chris Horne has slotted into professional life at Collins Hume as an accounting all-rounder.

Chris' professional career began ten years ago when he finished university and joined the business services team in a local Melbourne firm. During that time he completed the Chartered Accountant's self-managed superannuation fund specialisation course at the University of New South Wales and became the superannuation go to person.

Having a partner from Byron Bay, it didn't take much persuading that a change of life was in order and they moved to the sunny Northern Rivers.

Chris is enjoying the opportunity to relook at his profession

"Coming from a firm that wasn't automated it's very exciting and impressive how Collins Hume are going about cloud accounting," says Chris. "We have an actively involved approach which gives us more time to look at business performance, not just routine compliance issues."  Read more…

Ian Wunsch on super, SMSFs, sugar and sliced bread

On super, SMSFs, sugar and sliced bread

Ian Wunsch is what many in the profession would call an accounting veteran.

Not only is he a classically qualified accountant, but he has seen life from the other side of the fence – the tax office fence.

If you think Ian's insight into the 'dark side' was a dalliance with the devil, think again. What he brings to Collins Hume in terms of understanding and advice is over and above what any run of the mill accountant can offer.

Ian became a key part of 'Collins & Hume' in 1988, after wrapping up ATO matters on Expo 88 as the event's Tax Auditor. A friend told him about an opening up with Messrs Collins and Hume; the promise of a fair maiden's hand waiting for him in Ballina sealed the deal.

"I always wanted to be a sugar cane farmer and an accountant," says Ian. "So we got married and I moved back to the Northern Rivers."  Read more…
