Introducing new Collins Hume Accountant, Brock Lindsay

Collins Hume's newest Accountant Brock Lindsay had a hunch that he was good at problem-solving and working with numbers, but it was only when he helped a mate expand his barbershop into a thriving business (replete with whisky bar) that confirmed accounting was the place he wanted to be.

Brock LindsayIt helped that, from an early age, Brock's dad Allan had cautioned him that being an accountant would be easier than being a mechanic!

"Being an accountant is always a challenge," says Brock. "There are new and interesting issues to learn about plus ways to help people get the best out of their businesses, so dad was right!"

Having only joined Collins Hume in May this year, Brock has immersed himself in superannuation, trust account audits and general tax work for a broad range of clients across all sectors.

Brock is always looking for the best solution to any curveballs that come his way, which is probably why he has also been charged with the rookie project of digitising Collins Hume's super records – another sustainability initiative close to our heart.

"I literally have a Great Wall of China stack of super files surrounding me, but the plan is to digitise all our trust deeds, resolutions and minutes so we can work from electronic records and also do our bit for the environment."

It also means Collins Hume is best poised for new events-based and transfer balance cap super reporting requirements.

Brock is currently part-way through study to qualify as a Chartered Accountant, ably mentored by Jeff Skinner.

"I love working here," Brock added. "It's like chalk and cheese coming to Collins Hume."

"We are more client-focused with business advice a key component of our service approach. We are encouraged to do our best by people who care about you and who care that you achieve a positive balance between professional and personal life."

Brock is a Wollongbar local who obtained his B Business (Accounting) from Southern Cross University whilst working as an accounting undergrad cadet. He is also a JP and a Xero Certified Advisor. Brock is a long-time member of Alphadale Rural Fire Brigade having started as a volunteer firefighter and now is Hon Treasurer. When time permits Brock loves to dabble in drawing and travel, with a trip to Japan on the cards later this year.
